MARYSVILLE, Calif. — A Marysville police officer was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday, in a shootout with a suspect who was also killed during a law enforcement operation.


Officer Osmar Rodarte was part of an operation cracking down on transnational drug trafficking in Yuba, Sutter, Tehama and Butte counties. He was killed while the operation was serving a search warrant.



Officials said Rodarte was a two-year veteran of the Marysville Police Department and was also a U.S. Army veteran.

"Officer Rodarte was more than a colleague; he was a friend, a father, an army veteran and a true hero," Marysville police shared in a statement.

Officials said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, there will be a procession from the Lakeside Chapel at 830 D Street in Marysville.

How to show support during procession for fallen

The city of Wheatland said the fallen officer will be escorted to Placer County for an autopsy.
